Thurs. President Obama Hosted the First Ever Seder In the White House. WHY?
Why did Obama host a Jewish Passover Seder at all? He is not Jewish. He did not invite a bunch of Jewish friends. The Seder has no signifigance to christians or muslims or other religions at all. It has no meaning to them and no relation to their religions. He also got the wrong day. Wednesday was first Seder.Seder means order. It is a ritual of rememberance done in a specific order. Jews eat certain foods to remind them of the suffering that their people went through to escape the enslavement of the Egyptians. They say certain prayers, drink four cups of wine and sing certain songs. They also remember the 10 plagues which actually represent the gods of the Egyptians that the Jews rejected.Over the years the Haggadah (the book that is followed during the Seder) has added things such as rememberances of the Holocaust. The Passover Seder is a purely Jewish experience as is Yom Kippur. It is not just an excuse to have a party. A Seder is not a party. It is hours of prayer and study. It is extremely important to Judaism. The observance started on Wednesday evening April 8, and will continue until Thursday evening April 16, with services almost every day.Now that you...

Court Decision
In Florida, an atheist became incensed over the preparation of Easter and Passover holidays. He decided to contact his lawyer about the discrimination inflicted on atheists by the constant celebrations afforded to Christians and Jews with all their holidays while atheists had no holiday to celebrate. The case was brought before a wise judge. After listening to the long passionate presentation by the lawyer, the Judge banged his gavel and declared "Case dismissed!"The lawyer immediately stood and objected to the ruling and said, "Your honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and many other observances. Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah...yet my client and all other atheists have no such holiday!" The judge leaned forward in his chair and simply said, "Obviously your client is too confused to even know about, much less celebrate his own atheists' holiday!"The lawyer pompously said, "Your Honor, we are unaware of any such holiday for atheists. Just when might that holiday be, your Honor?"The judge said, "Well it comes every year on exactly the same date---April 1st! Since our calendar sets...

Political milestones in the 1970s
In GovernmentIn 1969, Peres was appointed Minister of Absorption and in 1970 he became the Minister of Transportation and Communications. In 1974, after a period as Information Minister, he was appointed Minister of Defense in the Yitzhak Rabin government having been Rabin's chief rival for the post of Prime Minister after Golda Meir resigned in the aftermath of the Yom Kippur War. During this time, Peres continued to challenge Rabin for the chairmanship of the party, but in 1977, he again lost to Rabin in the party elections.First time acting as Prime MinisterPeres suceeded Rabin as party leader prior to the 1977 elections when Rabin stepped down in the wake of a foreign currency scandal involving his wife. As Rabin could not legally resign from the transition government, he officially remained Prime Minister, while Peres became the unofficial acting Prime Minister. Peres led the Alignment to its first ever electoral defeat, when the Likud Party under Menachem Begin won sufficient seats to form a coalition that excluded the left. After only a month on top, Peres assumed the role of opposition leader.
