Discuss holiday items, ideas, and cheer!| Remember those old station wagons? | | This might go completely over the heads of some of the younger members here, but I'm sure that many of you remember the old station wagons with the wood paneling on the sides. Well, I saw one while I was out today. It's been a really long time since I had seen one. With the rise in popularity of the mini-van and SUV I thought they had become extinct. This brought back memories of the time when I was in school as a child. I had a best friend whose mother drove one of those station wagons. They had a really big family - eight children - so, like most large families of that time they owned a station wagon. This all got me to thinking about how many people still drive a station wagon in the twenty-first century. How often do you see someone driving a station wagon these days? Just curious.[em]happy[/em]

| | Redneck or just a Country Boy/Girl | | Hey
This has got to be a good one. Let me tell you about my Redneck Country Boy boyfriend and his friends, Iam still laughing at them. I have now learned that him and his friends have this redneck of the year thing going on and this year it is my boyfriend, yes god help me! anyway I bought him this air compressor that was marked down because the wheel in the frount was broke so he took it to one of his friends that owns a body shop and does nothing but works on Jeeps and lifting them. So he comes home with the compressor and guess what they did, they put a lift on the compressor, yes yes they did. Now today this one place is coming to get my Jeep today and we have some tires that they are taking also but my Jeep is at his dads house so we had noway to get them there so he takes two wagons that we have and put two tires on each wagon and tied them together and headed down the street pulling these tires to his dad, it was so funny I am still laughing about it. Oh let me also say that he has won the redneck of the year award from his friends for lifting his compressor. There is so much more I could write about but I dont want to make this to long. Anyway please tell me your best...
| | Living the slow life, horse pulled wagon style across the USA | | I just had the awesome experience of conversing with a man that has traveled across the USA with his team of 4 draft horses pulling 2 wagons and his dog.Apparently his journey started back in 2006. He travels along main roads, and highways and lives a good quality peaceful life. So many of us are constantly go go go and in a hurry that we don't take the time to stop and appreciate things. Lee is a very calm and intelligent fellow and he's got lots of stories to tell.
I did a google search about him and found an article as well as a website someone made for him. Here is his website http://www.leehorselogger.com
Here is an article that tells when and why he started his journey.

| | Christmas to commercialized | | Over the years I have watched how the holidays have changed is some aspect. Today as I sit staring at my little Christmas tree I began to think about all the commercials on the television and how early the stores started to decorate for the Christmas season. Many stores have begun decorating before Halloween where as others have even gone earlier than that. I understand the need to keep our economy going, but come on, where is the true meaning behind all of this. Even looking beyond the religion behind the holiday season. It is about the coming together of family and friends, sharing new memories, being together when other times of the year prevent us from it. It is about the upcoming new year and what is ahead for each of us. It is about hope, love, understanding. This time of year is the time when we think of our new adventures, what we want to change, what we want to do. I can remember living in Germany as a child and walking down the shopping centers. The stores began to decorate about a week before the Holiday season, music started to play about this time, chestnuts were being roasted, small wagons started to pop up with their wares. This was what I loved about the... | |
| | Shut down, | | I had to laugh the other day when I heard that it was the English who blockaded the French port of Calais. We have operation stack in England on the M20,which is near to where we live. All the traffic is grid locked as most of the M20 coast road is used as a car park. They put tea wagons serving hot dogs, ect,to the waiting lorry drivers who cannot go anywhere, the lorries are completely stuck with no where to go,they even put portaloos out.The cargo on the lorries goes off, independant drivers and smaller companies have to lay people off,if they cannot deliver their cargo in Europe and beyond they don't get paid. All this disruption it causes is heart breaking.Normally it is the French blockading the port of Calais stopping anything crossing the channel as an island it is a real pain, our only way in or out.I just had to have a chuckle to figure out how the French felt not being able to go anywhere, and it was not even them that caused it.Cheeky I know but I could not resist a giggle or two. | |
| | What do you think of Red Dead Redemption? | | Personally i can't wait til this comes out, I've heard its abit like GTA but in a western. I think you can jack wagons and stuff like in GTA without the cars and drive trains to your destination etc. What do you feel about this game? Is this going to be another great Rockstar game? | |
| | Of all the places you've ever been, where did you view the best scenery? | | I've traveled to many of our 50 states and seen so much beauty in my own country. The most awe-inspiring of all, though, has been Wyoming. Magnificent mountains, hot mineral pools, rivers...just so much beauty! I have also loved Las Vegas, both city and countryside, and The Badlands. I could only imagine as I looked at them how hard it must have been for pioneers to cross them in covered wagons.Of all the places you've been, which have struck you as the most beautiful, and why?Karenywhere, and it was not even them that caused it.Cheeky I know but I could not resist a giggle or two. | |
