Oak Ridge Boys Music
Do we have any Oak Ridge Boys fans? I can talk about these guys until Golden shaves his beard.
It's that time of year again.....the county fair!
Our County fair started today and will run through Sunday. It draws over a hundred thousand people from all over because of the entertainment. Tonight The Oak Ridge Boys are playing and as the week goes along Guess Who will be here....and other entertainers. I have always loved going through the buildings especially the craft/art building where many talented local artists display their prize winning creations. Do you have a county fair in your area and do you like attending it?
Silver Star Resort & Casino
In my discussion about the Choctaw Indian Fair, I mentioned that I stayed at the Silver Star Resort & Casino while I was there. This is a very nice hotel on the Pearl River Reservation in Philadelphia, Mississippi. It has about 500 rooms, including more than 75 suites. The 90,000 square-foot casino houses 3,000 slot machines. I don't gamble, myself, but I had to walk through the casino several times during my stay there to get to certain parts of the hotel. The lights are just beautiful, though. They also have seven restaurants, five retail shops where you can buy a souveneir or a gift for someone, a pool where I went swimming everyday. If you want to exercise, they have an indoor fitness facility and you can pamper yourself at the spa. During the fair, they have a shuttle bus that leaves the casino about every hour or half hour, taking people to the fair. The first day of the fair, I drove my SUV to the fairgrounds. I got lost coming back to the casino that night, lol[em]lol[/em]. I decided from the next day on that it would be easier just to ride the shuttle bus everyday. I even got to ride with some of Billy Ray Cyrus's Slydog band members, which was a lot of fun! Billy Ray was...

Johnny Cash's Home Ruined in Fire
By KRISTIN M. HALL, Associated Press Writer HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. - Johnny Cash's longtime lakeside home, a showcase where he wrote much of his famous music and entertained U.S. presidents, music royalty and visiting fans, was destroyed by fire on Tuesday. Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash, lived in the 13,880-square-foot home from the late 1960s until their deaths in 2003."So many prominent things and prominent people in American history took place in that house — everyone from Billy Graham to Bob Dylan went into that house," said singer Marty Stuart, who lives next door and was married to Cash's daughter, Cindy, in the 1980s.Stuart said the man who designed the house, Nashville builder Braxton Dixon, was "the closest thing this part of the country had to Frank Lloyd Wright."When Cash moved there, the road was a quiet country lane that skirts Old Hickory Lake. Kris Kristofferson, then an aspiring songwriter, once landed a helicopter on Cash's lawn to pitch him a song. The landmark video for Cash's song "Hurt" was shot inside the house."It was a sanctuary and a fortress for him," Stuart said. "There was a lot of writing that took place...
40 years later this is still making news..how sad
As investigators consider digging for bodies at a remote ranch where Charles Manson and his acolytes once hid out, new information has emerged to bolster reports of possible clandestine grave sites in the barren California desert, authorities say.Former Inyo County detective John Little said Wednesday he was sent into the desert in 1974 by his former boss to investigate possible human remains buried at Barker Ranch. law enforcement officials are poring over the forensic evidence gathered at the ranch by investigators from Tennessee's Oak Ridge National Laboratory.I feel for the families who don't know what happened to their loved ones. Begs the question why Manson still living? Why are members of the "Family" still having parole hearings.
How Can You Survive the End of the World?
That is the title of the latest tract distributed by Jehovah's Witnesses in the neighbourhood. Apparantly it is being distributed world-wide. It is an invitation to their annual convention. The public discourse is "How Can You Survive the End of the World?"The theme of the end of the world is nothing new for the JW. For some 40 years before 1914 they were telling people that the wicked world would end in that year. Then it was predicted for 1975 or around that year. But in view of recent world events like, the economic downturn, the swine flue, events in North Korea (ect.), could the "end of the world" really be close? The title of the discourse seems to suggest that they have a "survival plan" that they want to share with us. What do you think? Have you received an invitation? Will you go to hear what they have to say? I googled the subject and found this:‘How Can You Survive The End of the World?' advertisement Roane State Community College By Beverly Majors| beverly.majors@oakridger.com Submitted Posted May 28, 2009 @ 08:43 PM OAK RIDGE, Tenn. —"How Can You Survive The End of the World?" Gov't posts sensitive list of US nuclear sites by mistake~ OOPS!!!
Someone in high places made a mistake by sending out sensitive information,it dose make me nervous because the right wing terrorist list from home land security was released with out being cleared first, the person that did that was sent to a new position in the white house. Have you wondered just how experienced are these people that has been appointed by Obama and his administration to high level positions in our government? (STORY AT LINK BELOW)An Energy Department official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to discuss the situation publicly, said none of the sites on the list are directly part of the government's nuclear weapons infrastructure.Included in the report, however, are details on a storage facility for highly enriched uranium at the Y-12 complex at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee and some sites at the Energy Department's Hanford nuclear site in Washington state, this official acknowledged. The document includes both government and civilian nuclear facilities, all of which have various levels of security, including details and location of nation's 103 commercial nuclear power reactors,...
Greening The Superbowl (Sporting Events That Are Environmentally Conscious)
I found this article through the Grist.com website and thought I would share. I think it's great that more people and organizations are trying to make the earth "healthier".Sometimes I wonder if it's a little too late and/or promotional based. At any rate,it sounds like a good thing. What does everyone else think?Greening The Super Bowl Alex Davidson 01.19.07, 6:00 AM ET In Pictures: Global Sports Go Green One football team will wake up Feb. 5, the day after Super Bowl XLI in Miami, in a bad mood. But Jack Groh, director of the National Football League’s environmental program, will be all smiles regardless of who wins.Groh is spearheading the NFL's third go at offsetting greenhouse gas emissions created during the big game at Dolphin Stadium. A green Super Bowl? Yes, and more events like it keep popping up.The green-events list includes the Indy 500, Fifa World Cup and 2006 Olympics in Turin, Italy. There is enough demand for green events that the United Nations Environmental Program recently held a conference on sports and the environment where participants discussed topics ranging from the impact of building design and how to harvest rainwater to...
Science Funds Come Up Short For 2007
After Congress failed to pass new budgets for the current fiscal year, scientific institutions across the United States could suffer setbacks. The New York Times reported the financial crisis could close several major facilities, delay new projects and force thousands out of work.Scientists say the areas most affected will likely be physics, chemistry and astronomy. Biology, on the other hand, seems to fare far better, with more than $28 billion annually going towards biomedical programs, the Times reported.Facilities affected by the budget freeze include Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center in California."The consequences for American science will be disastrous," said Michael S. Lubell, a senior official of the American Physical Society, the world's largest group of physicists. "The message to young scientists and industry leaders, alike, will be, 'Look outside the U.S. if you want to succeed.'"
