What is your favorite Dr. Suess book?Mine were "Cat In The Hat" and "Are You My Mother"
Did You Ever Wonder What Happened After...
your favorite movie ended. I did and I do. Four of my favorite movies: Here are my proposed endings after a curtain fall of the actual movie. 1. Dirty Dancing: I think that Johnny and Baby get married after she graduates from Mount Holyoke and joins the Peace Corps. As much as she loves him she's not going to give up every dream she ever had. I think that they have a nice wedding in the mountains of New York. I also think that she may have had an affair or two during her Mount Holyoke years. I think he was pretty okay with this. Not thrilled, but okay. God help the person who broke her heart, though. I think he would come to Massachusetts and wail on them. 2. Footloose: I think that Ren and Ariel made it to about their second year of college and then broke up because they outgrew each other. I still think they are friends, though. 3. The Lorax: I think that if there ever is a sequel to this classic children movie, The Lorax will come back as predicted. It's funny. The first time I saw this movie, I must have been seven or so and had just learned the word sequel. So when the movie ended, I asked if there was a sequel. I'm surprised no one has done it yet. 4....
The wisdom of Dr Seuss
I am a rabid Dr Seuss fan, and it's not just because I have kids that I read his books. I read them because I love them, because the rhythm of his verse is so compelling, and because they make me smile. But what convinces me of his brilliance is that, along with the nonsensical ones like "Cat in the Hat", and "Fox in Socks" (one of my favourites!), you'll find those which, despite the insanely made-up words, and funny rhymes, have deep moral messages. One of them is "The Lorax", which is about the effect of unsustainable industrialization, without regard for the environment. Heavy stuff made plain for children..... "Business is business, and business must grow, regardless of crummies in tummies, you know."Another deep one is the short story "The Sneetches", which is basically about discrimination. I especially like that he showed how one man took advantage of the Sneetches' prejudice, and blind dislike of each other - and played them against each other - for his own profit. Good lessons there. Then there's "Horton Hears a Who". "A person's a person, no matter how small." You could extend that to so many things.... Personally, I can extend it to people who are "small" in...
Books on CD, for kids!
I'm not an audio book person, but with my recent vacation, we bought a couple for the trip. They kept us awake and were very entertaining. While I was in a Barnes and Noble, I found a couple of books on CD for kids. A sales lady told me that they only had a couple of them, but what a great idea, right?! My Kate loves to sit and read, but if the book is too long, she gets impatient. Anyway, Kate's grandma bought her Suess's Oh The Places You Will Go (my most fav of all kids books) and The Lorax, so she will have great things to listen to at playtime, or bedtime for that matter.Isn't books on CD a great idea for kids?
Favorite childhood books?
What books did you enjoy as a child that you look forward to reading to or passing on to your kids? When I was a kid I loved Blue Bugs Vegetable Garden, Where the Wild Things Are, The Lorax and Green Eggs and Ham. My son already loves Green Eggs and Ham (he's got it memorized).
