Discuss holiday items, ideas, and cheer!| Have you ever gotten sympathy cards when a pet dies? | | When my horse Major was put down last friday I never expected sympathy cards! I have recieved 3! One was just for a pet! I appreciate the cards and all the hugs and the kind words! What also appreciate is the money I also got in the cards! Right now I'm not sure what to do with the money! Someone suggested a photo or scrape album. I never had that thought but it sounds like an idea I might do! | |
| | Sympathy cards for those in Jail | | Seems Hallmark has ignored this line of cards for a reason, could it be due to slow sales? However there is a line of greeting cards that you can send to your loved ones doing hard time, in jail.Would you send a loved one in jail a card? You can read about it here,http://news.yahoo.com/s/uc/20071109/od_notw/nwx071111xml;_ylt=AqrhiIRznbiSiPm9EgoUYUA3AIZ4>Terrye Cheathem, a criminal defense lawyer and adviser to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, has developed a line of greeting cards for a Hallmark-ignored demographic: the recently incarcerated. Among her selections are cards reading "Sorry to hear about your arrest," and "Honestly, I never knew anyone who was arrested before," and, simply, "Not You!" A remorseful correspondent could choose: "I know that I have not visited you. But I still care about you ... When are you getting out, anyway?" | |
| | I made 3 cards yesterday | | I had gotten some card making stuff at Walmart over the weekend, and then the roomie reminded me she needed a sympathy card for a friend.Well, I went looking online for a pix I liked and found it in the form of a brown card with black leaves on it.So, I took that as my format - after a fashion. What I had gotten was glitter stuff, but I did have some colored inks as well.so, I took this glitter called "Brownstone" and stamped leaves on about 1/3 of the card after I had carefully written my message out in a nice hand on the rest of the front. Then I wrote another note inside.I made 2 cards like that, because she needed one for her friend who's mother died and I needed one for a doctor who's father died. I also made one very simple, with the message spelled out in the glitter for her friend who is totally blind and who's brother died recently. And NOW I have GLITTER EVERY WHERE!!!!So, do you find you end up with a big mess when you craft? Have you ever done cards like I did? Do you find yourself looking online for ideas like I did? Or are you smart enough to be able to do these things yourself? I could've done a birthday card, but a sympathy card... | |
| | Help! I need advice! | | I have been off work for 4 months. I had a stillborn baby daughter in November. Tomorrow is my first day back at work. I'm very nervous as well as very angry at the people I work with. I'm angry because everyone I know sent us a sympathy card after we lost our baby, including our past employers from years ago, EXCEPT my current workplace did nothing! Even though I'v worked there over a year, and had (so I thought) good friends there AND I had signed cards for many people over the last few months for sympathy cards, weddings, new homes...but I got NOTHING when my baby died. I only had my stupid boss calling me up 3 weeks later, asking if this meant I would be coming back to work earlier. So now I have to go back tomorrow and face all these people. Theyre' all going to be friendly and talkative and I'm very quiet and especially now, I'm not in a friendly mood. Can you give me any advice as to how I can get through the first day? Thanks | |
| | Should There Be More Social Recognition For the Roles Our Pets Play In Our Life | | I just finished reading the blog byHomer: The Blind Wonder Cat's owner whose other cat Vashti is at the vet's for kidney failure. She comments there is no socially recognized rituals or protocols for the illness of a pet. So that pet owners feel isolated when something happens to our pets. There is nothing that society dictates must be done for a pet tragedy. If fact, its only recently that I have seen congrats on your new pet cards or sympathy cards for the death of a pet. We celebrate and worry about many things in our lives. But can you get a day off for a pet illness? Do we can any kind of public support or closure for the death of a pet or any understanding for the grief and worry we go through with out pets? I think as a pet owner that there should be more social understanding for the illness and death of a pet. For many of us they are our kids. What do you think, should we as pet owners get more understanding from society over the emotions we feel for our pets or do you feel that, that might be silly? After all many (not myself) would say they are only animals. | |
| | Is my world virtual? | | The death of my Mother brought many things up close and personal. I moved my office to my home a little over a year ago and left most of my friends as well. As it turns out I have lost the human touch and all my contact comes through the computer. Strange. The people I was close to a year ago send no sympathy cards and make no mention of Mother’s death, like they would have while I was there.Have all my associates and contacts become email and on-line? If that is the case is that even acceptable? Any thoughts?
