| St Patrick - a Great ENGLISHMAN! | | Today is the feast day of St Patrick, patron saint of Ireland and without doubt one of the most widely celebrated saints. Many celebrants will throng the Irish bars of the World and use his name as a good excuse to be merry - a good few might even make it to church. And why not. Patrick was born it is believed a Romano-celt in a place that no longer exists called Banna Venta Berniae. Today the nearest town is Ravenglass in Cumbria ENGLAND!! Taken to Ireland first as a slave who escaped and returned to England before being called back to develop his ministry. Often at loggerheads with local kings because he refused to show preference or accept gifts and ignored by the Church in Ireland for centuries afterwards St Patrick has somehow come to symbolise the positive qualities of the Emerald Isle. | | What will you do to celebrate St Patrick's Day??? | | St Patrick's day is all about loving being Irish and I am. For many, it's a day to go out and get as drunk as possible yet still be able to make it to work the next day! An Irishmen is never really drunk as long as he/she can hold onto a blade of grass and not fall off the earth - saw that on a plaque in a Irish pub!Every city celebrates it in different ways. When I lived in Boston, there was a fun parade and lots of family activities. The city of Chicago dyes the river bright green! I don't drink so I'll be celebrating by making an Irish dinner for a few friends and relaxing at home. How about you? | |
| | Celebrating St. Patrick's Day... | | So, tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day…the day of green, leprechauns, pots of gold and celebration. Many ppl take the day very seriously, while others simply see it as a day of fun pinching ppl for not wearing green. For most ppl leprechauns are folklore along with the pots of gold at the end of the rainbow but for some Irish ppl, it’s as real as anything else. Personally, I like the holiday, I find it a fun and happy holiday. I don’t go out drinking but I do try to wear green. I can remember when I was in school everyone would ask if you were wearing green and if you weren’t, boy did you get pinched. LOL So, what does St. Patrick’s Day mean to you? | What are your plans for St. Patrick's Day? | | I'm wondering what other mylotters are doing for this holiday. Do you go out and celebrate? Do you treat it as just another day? I have always loved this holiday, probably because green is my favorite color. I really get to have fun with this! Last year, I dressed in green, had the shamrock headband and necklace, and hung shamrocks all over my house. This year, I will probably do it again. I just love this holiday. Do you wear green? | | | Our annual St. Patrick's Day party | | My extended family is Irish and they have a party either the weekend before or the weekend after St. Patrick's Day ever year. I have not gone in about 5 years though. This year they decided to have it at my late grandfathers house and it will probably be the last party/holiday that will be held there since they are going to be selling the house soon. As thousands of frat boy flood drunkenly into the streets to try match up with a bunch of overly promiscuous upper crust super preppy girls, I think that we should find a way to change this day to a day remorse. | | Who Is St. Patrick | | My mom and I were chatting and she saw my son on the webcam wearing green shirt and she greets my son happy st. patrick's. So I asked her what's it all about and why she's also wearing green sweaters and she said it's st. patrick's that's why even in schools there kids wear green. Then I joked so he's the patron saint of color green. | |

| St. Patrick's Day | | The day everyone is Irish.....I love St. Paddy's Day....love dressing in green, drinking green beer with my friends, singing Irish tunes....Everyone is always happy on St.Paddy's day......Do you celebrate this day.....What are your plans.....A group of us are going to 3 different irish pubs to enjoy the entertainment,food, laughs and of course green beer......Don't worry there will be no driving involved.....cabbing it everywhere......Have a great St. Paddy's Day!!!!! | |
