Discuss holiday items, ideas, and cheer!| What does Pheasant meat taste like?(Wild bird eaters only) | | [If you are against hunting birds and you wont eat any hunted meat, This discussion is not for you, Go to a discussion were you agree with instead, Be insensitive please]This bird really looks attractive and beautiful but its such a hit for Hunters in United States. I guess this bird is not endangered and it has a hunting season.Hunting birds is not allowed in my country anymore because they were endangered. So I have no choice but to stick with what is available. Is this very gamey? Does it taste like chicken or was it better than chicken.
| | | How do you cook pheasant? | | I was just wondering how do you cook a pheasant? We have many pheasants around our property and im thinking it must be time to thin them out a bit. Im told they are very tasty, have you tried it?
Also is there a season where I can kill them?
| | Deer Hunting or pheasant hunting? | | As a hunter who has hunted both i find pheasant hunting more suitable to my qualities. I tend to like being in wide open spaces with the feel of the grass in my boots and the blowing wind in my face. I like the swish of my boots through the grass and the relaxing deep blue sky above. this is why i love pheasant hunting wayyyy more than deer hunting. what is your opinion? | |

| | Roadkill...The Other White Meat... | | Ok, I saw this question in our local little paper and had to ask all you MyLot members what your answer to it would be.Just how desperate for food would you have to be to resort to eating roadkill??? Yup, we're talking about dog, cat, squirrel, rabbit, raccoon, possum, deer or skunk. Not three month old rotting roadkill but fresh roadkill...like same day roadkill. Would you just grab a shovel, scoop it up and take it home for dinner? Do you think your family would be thrilled at your craftiness or have you committed on the spot???Personally, there's no way I could...I'm a huge animal lover and even if it is already dead I couldn't eat one of my furry friends. Just curious...~~MY OWN PEACE WITHIN~~**STAND STRONG AND BELIEVE IN YOURSELF** | |

This didn't pay much, I've always loved cooking and food. This was before the Internet. I remembered having smoked fish in my younger years and to save some cash I went to the local library and got a book on smoking fish and game. I fished a lot but didn't hunt, however guys I worked with hunted.I built a smoker out of an old refrigerator, I found the plans in an old Popular Mechanics Mag. and it was awesome, you had some duct work buried about ten feet from the smoke unit, and it went into the old frig. the other end went to a fire pit you'd get the fire going and throw in the wood of choice for the smoke and cover it up, the smoke would go into the frig, and you had a damper on the top to control the heat and smoke! I started smoking trout, and catfish, they were awesome. A friend from the bar gave me a bunch of Cherry tree wood and apple tree wood! My friends that hunted wood bring me wild turkeys to smoke I' do 4 of them and keep one for me, pretty Soon I was making deer and elk jerky. Smoked salmon, even pheasant. I also learned that after your done smoking something if you put 1 pound blocks of...
