Discuss holiday items, ideas, and cheer!| The wisdom of Dr Seuss | | I am a rabid Dr Seuss fan, and it's not just because I have kids that I read his books. I read them because I love them, because the rhythm of his verse is so compelling, and because they make me smile. But what convinces me of his brilliance is that, along with the nonsensical ones like "Cat in the Hat", and "Fox in Socks" (one of my favourites!), you'll find those which, despite the insanely made-up words, and funny rhymes, have deep moral messages. One of them is "The Lorax", which is about the effect of unsustainable industrialization, without regard for the environment. Heavy stuff made plain for children..... "Business is business, and business must grow, regardless of crummies in tummies, you know."Another deep one is the short story "The Sneetches", which is basically about discrimination. I especially like that he showed how one man took advantage of the Sneetches' prejudice, and blind dislike of each other - and played them against each other - for his own profit. Good lessons there. Then there's "Horton Hears a Who". "A person's a person, no matter how small." You could extend that to so many things.... Personally, I can extend it to people who are "small" in...
| | What is your favorite Dr. Seuss book? | | My kids and I love Dr. Seuss books and have almost every one. Just wondering which book is your favorite if you're a fan. Mine is "Oh the Places You'll Go". Yours? | |
| | You Are There | | There was an old tv show series called "You Are There" which was broadcasted during the 1950's on CBS. The show took the viewers back in history to events like Custer's Last Stand.
There is also a series for kids called "the Magic Treehouse" where a brother and sister team go to different historical events like the sinking of the Titanic and the 1906 San Francisco earth quake (the kids are magically wisked away to safety before anything happens).
wWhat historical event would you like to witness? I would have liked to have seen the Last Supper; perhaps the sinking of the Titanic, i would have liked to visit every day life in New York City around the first part of the 20th century, oh the places you could go!
| | Books on CD, for kids! | | I'm not an audio book person, but with my recent vacation, we bought a couple for the trip. They kept us awake and were very entertaining. While I was in a Barnes and Noble, I found a couple of books on CD for kids. A sales lady told me that they only had a couple of them, but what a great idea, right?! My Kate loves to sit and read, but if the book is too long, she gets impatient. Anyway, Kate's grandma bought her Suess's Oh The Places You Will Go (my most fav of all kids books) and The Lorax, so she will have great things to listen to at playtime, or bedtime for that matter.Isn't books on CD a great idea for kids? | |
| | | Woman’s Best Friend, or Accessory? (nytimes) | | Oh, the places Paige has been. Like all the top New Yorkers, she dines downtown at Mercer Kitchen, eyes the heart of palm at the deli E.A.T. on Madison Avenue and appraises the calfskin boots at Gucci. “We even drink together,” said Dina Lewis, a real estate agent and Paige’s constant companion.

Muffin, a Yorkie, has her own rack of clothes.
At Plug Uglies on Third Avenue, “Paige sits on the bar stool and everything,” Ms. Lewis said. “It’s like having a very good-looking, very drunk friend with you all the time.”
Except that Paige is a doll-sized Chihuahua. She travels with her mistress everywhere, scoping out the world from the confines of a Balenciaga look-alike bag.
Paige is what is known as a sleeve dog, an emblem of status since antiquity. Once toted by fashionable women inside the folds of their gowns, diminutive pets have been the favorites of nobles from...
| | Oh goody It is update day | | Oh goody. It is update day. The joy of Microsoft Windows updates swells my heart as I look at the little icon on the bottom of the screen telling me that it is time to obey and install the latest updates to my computer. Maybe if it was just one computer, I would not dread this so much. But I have three computers that I have to update. So that is three computers that I have to click "Yes, I am ready for you to attempt to destory my computer." Oh wait, it is not meant to destory my computer. It is an unfortunate accident if the update causes my computer to do weird things afterwards. And maybe I would be less annoyed if I was not trying to actually work today. My livelihood depends upon me sitting in front of a keyboard, punching sentences in. But no, we must break the flow of the writing to install the update. Who knows how many updates? And how many restarts? And will my anti-virus program decide that the updates are actually viruses? It could happen. Ahh yes, it makes you glad that it is Windows update day, doesn't it? | |

| | Oh shoot, I forgot what to post! | | Of course we have a lot of important things in our minds besides mylot and our computer. We can't be in front of our computer 24/7. When I'm not online, I have so many ideas on what to post in mylot. Sometimes, if there's a new discussion in mind, I have to open my computer and log in to mylot as soon as possible, otherwise I'll forget it. Most of the time though, I can't just log in as rapid as that, because I have so much things to do other than sit in front of my computer. I always forget what I have to post and it's really annoying! Lol.;) | |
| | oh my!!! our old pictures!!! | | Lately, there has been a havoc of comments over a picture that was posted by my friend in her facebook account. And to my surprise, I was there! It was really a shocking pictures of our classmates with our adviser. And the funny thing about it is that it was during our HIGH SCHOOL DAYS!! Which is over seven years ago.. and we were all shocked. And some were even ashamed over their pictures in the past. I wonder why. As for me, it was fine. For my face from before, is just the same as today. Hehe. My good, for them, it wasn’t. they just wanted to forget it. even cursing jokingly the picture who posted it. I really am was laughing while reminiscing the past. Others had untagged themselves from the picture. And I would tag them again and again. Hehe. I might tag them again later.. are you that ashame over your old pictures?.. hehe.. | |
