Are there any Merle Haggard fans out there?
I tell what I like about Merle Haggard. He's honest. Honesty is such a lonely word, as Billy Joel put it. There's so many songs I like by him: "That's the Way Love Goes", "Working Man Blues", "Daddy Frank". I don't which ones he wrote. I'm lucky to remember my own name. I like country music because no matter what situation I'm in, it always brings me back home. I love the country, and I don't like living in a big city. Nevertheless, unless things chance here I am. I forgot to mention, being the reprobate that I certainly am, "Think I'll Just Stay Here and Drink". One of these days, I'll do a cover of that song - playing the piano part. I write and play as well, but I'll never be as great as Merle Haggard or Vince Gill - another one of my favorites. My website is, for now, www.soundclick.com/danmatheny I'm into music, and I'm into the great ones - as aforementioned Merle and Vince but in the country genre, Reba McIntyre, Tammy Wynette, and Johnny Cash. Oh, let me include Glen Campbell from Delight, Arkansas. I guess all this dates me, for I was born in 1961. I lived in Linden, Texas for awhile. Worked in a...
How many stars have you met?
I keep a folder that I someday want to turn into a collage. So far I have met Kevin Harvick, Merle Haggard, Crystal Gayle, Aaron Tippin, Ron White, Willie Nelson, Marty Stewart and the late Bonnie Owens. I also have George Jones' autograph, he was too tired after the show, but his manager took items in for him to sign. And I missed meeting Ken Schrader because the brakes went out on my truck, but someone else got his autograph for me. So how many autographs do you have in your collection?
Does your relationship have a theme song?
Be it your marriage, friendship, relationship with lovers or family does it have a theme song? Like mine and my husband's theme song I think would have to be the song by Merle Haggard "if We Make It Threw December" because every December since we have met times have been hard for us. He usually is out of work due to what he does for a living(carpentry) even now that he is out of that he went most of this month without work. He is cleaning banks again which is good even though the money isn't that great, any money is better than none[em]happy[/em] But it seems like every December we have something bad going on in our lives. And Christmas for the kids....well yet again that is a no go. Luckily his oldest girl and boy understand a bit more than my little one does. So does your relationship have a theme song? And if so what and why?
Merle: Still Relevant Today!
I was listening to some old tunes today and this one seemed to ring true to what we face here in America today even though it was written almost four decades ago. I wonder, do you think Merle Haggard was clairvoyant or were the times back then just paralell to these today? If you would like to listen to the song here is the link:http://www.cmt.com/videos/merle-haggard/26447/are-the-good-times-really-over.jhtmlHere are the lyrics:I wish a buck was still silverAnd it was back when the country was strongBack before Elvis and before the Viet Nam war came alongBefore the Beatles and yesterdayWhen a man could still work, and still wouldIs the best of the free life behind us now?Are the good times really over for good?I wish coke was still cola and a joint was a bad place to beIt was back before Nixon lied to us all on TVBefore microwave ovens when a girl could still cook and still wouldIs the best of the free life behind us now?Are the good times really over for good? Are we rolling down hill like a snowball headed for he11?With no kind of chance for the flag or the liberty bellI wish a Ford and a Chevy would still last...
Hillbillies in a Haunted House.
Do you love movies about haunted houses? Do you love movies about hillbillies? Then you will LOVE Hillbillys in a Haunted House (1967). Two country music greats Ferlin Husky and Merle Haggard are on their way to Nashville when shazam, car trouble and a really heavy rain storm strikes. Lon Chaney Jr. and Basil Rathbone just happen to be sitting around in their abandoned, decrepit, (you guessed it) haunted mansion. Ferlin and Merle come to realize the house isn't really haunted; it's really the headquarters of a ring of international spies after a super duper, top secret, and really valuable atomic secret. And it only takes them 1 hour and 30 minutes (film time, of course) to solve this tale of espionage and high intrigue. This film is not recommended for people with no sense of humor or anything really important to do with their time
Is there any others out there
Merle Haggard fans I mean.I grew up listening to his music because he was my dads favorite singer.I still listen to him just not as much because he makes me miss my dad.So is there any other fans? Have a great evening.

Who are the greatest songwriter/performers of all time?
I'm asking about the greatest songwriters who also successfully performed their material. So this eliminates names like Burt Bacharach or Oscar/Hammerstein, even though they wrote excellent songs. Elvis wrote some of his material, and he would be near the top of the list because he was such an excellent performer. On the other hand, Paul McCartney and John Lennon are near the top because they were so prolific and ingenious at writing, even though they rate no where near Elvis in performance. So, here is my short list - the Beatles (McCartney-Lennon-Harrison), Led Zeppelin (Page-Plant), Sting, Steely Dan (Fagen-Becker), Kris Kristofferson, Gordon Lightfoot, Pink Floyd (Waters-Gilmore), John Denver, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Vince Gil, Allison Kraus, Eric Clapton, James Taylor (and his ex-wife - name escapes me), Rush (Getty Lee), Ambrosia (don't know the names of the writers, but love their music), Supertramp (ditto), Fleetwood Mac (McVie, Nicks, Buckingham), Earl Thomas Conley, Willie Nelson, the Doobies, and Bob Wills.
What's your favorite George Jones song?
I grew up listening to old country music. My grandpa would sing and play the guitar. We would always listen to George Jones and some other country singers such as Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, Earl Thomas Conley and Hank Williams Sr. Some of my favorite songs by George Jones include The Grand Tour, White Lightning, He Stopped Loving Her Today, A Good Year For The Roses and The Bottle Let Me Down. What's one of your favorite George Jones songs?
