Discuss holiday items, ideas, and cheer!| Family Gathering Bickering again! | | I have a huge family that consist of 10 kids, many grandkids and great grandkids, Every year we would have a Christmas gathering at my parents house, which was always a blessing. Then my dad passed away, and my mom couldn't bear to do it. Well a couple of years ago, she decided it would be nice to keep the tradition going,seeing how her health isn't all that great these days, she wanted to see "all" her family in one,so she started that tradition again.
Well, the last 2,last years and the one already being planned for this year, seemed to start a family feud. It seems that one person thinks its too loud for the many kids, one person thinks that my moms arm was twisted in having it,another thinks one is only doing it for attention and so one. I don't know the real reason behind the this feud, is it jealousy, the saddness of my dad gone and not being able to share the joy with us, the hatred some family members have for others, etc.
We don't have this feud when we plan labor day or memorial day parties, or birthday, graduation, etc, why is it all starts when its the Christmas gathering?

Man, I have gone to so many parties recently: weddings, Memorial Day parties, work parties, birthdays, etc. I have become quite the drinker (although I have slowed down considerably, thank goodness, over the last few years) but I know I get different effects from different alcohols. It really is a drug, but it's legal and I love it, so be it!!What kind of effects do you tend to get?Mostly with wine, even strong sangria laced with many different liquors, I tend to get a more mellow and forgetful buzz/drunk.
With beer, I rarely drink it, and I am not a huge fan--- I usually get very bloated and cranky.
With vodka the night feels fun but it can hit me in an instant. I have a much longer and more intensive list, but I don't want to bore anyone! Anyway, tonight I am enjoying my sangria... How about you??My Own Sangria Recipe: bottle red wine (almost any will do)
bottle white merlot
one lime squeezed
half an orange squeezed, the rest cut up and included to simmer/marinate a few days
1-2 TBSP lemon juice
1 cup coconut rum or other light rum (fruity rums such as passion fruit, mango, etc)

| | Memorial Day gathering this Saturday | | I guess since my father-in-law died that some of the family is getting nostalgic and want to get together this weekend for a cookout..I think they are seriously wasting their time, because their critical attitude is enough to drive me away from them, which is why we didn't get together before. So since they did just loss their father, I thought I would go with it, even though my one daughter who doesn't like me is going to be there..But I can ignore her just as good as she can, even better even...My problem is because I have not been with this family in years, I have changed the way I eat. I no longer eat pork for one and my husband said something like we will bring our beef hot dogs because that is what they are having..I called my niece today and found out that they are also having hamburgers too, but my son is picky and so I mentioned about the hot dogs which she had no problem with. (I found out on the trip, my son doesn't like pork hot dogs anymore..[em]thumbup[/em]) Anyways, she also mentioned about what other people are bringing and she said that someone is bringing baked beans..Well I got to thinking, I probably won't eat those either because I am sure it will be... | |
| | A turtle came to visit me on Memorial day.......... | | Hey mylotters, You are not going to believe this but yesterday while I was outside tending to the front yard and trying to spruce things up for memorial day. A turtle came prancing by. He was walking inside the curb of the street and moving at a pace like he was really on a mission. I got so excited Citychic that I am, hee hee, I mean it's not everyday that I get to see a turtle. Anyhow my hubby picked him up and brought him into the driveway. There we took a few pictures of him then tried to give him some water. He didn't drink much of the water. So as we attempted to release him he went and crawled under the front wheel of my car. I told my hubby, he knows that we are good people. My Hubby said, that turtle don't know anything of a sort. Well I happen to think that turtles and other animals do have a sense about people to know whether we are good or not. What do you think? Have a turtle ever came to visit with you? | | Did you enjoy your Memorial Day weekend? | | The next town over had a little carnival this past weekend, so we went and did that Saturday night. We didn't do much on Sunday, but there were fireworks that night so we watched those. | | Memorial Day | | Memorial Day is a day we should all remember thosewhom we have lost. It is a day we should alway reconize to never forget. There will be alot of sad faces today and mixed feeling in the air. It also makes us relize that life does go on but like everything else everything and everyone dies at one point or another. | | Memorial day plans crushed due to rain.. | | It is going to be nasty and rainy here all day, and this is the fourth day of rain, so no fun for me today, no pool, no cookout, no flag raising, no parade. Stuck inside with the kids and hubby. At least hubby said he would give me a break today, as he knows he will soon be working out of the house and my breaks will be cut SHORT.. by a ton.

| | Memories on Memorial Day | | Today I am thinking of family members who are no longer with us and remember all of the wonderful memories of them. Both my parents are gone and I miss both of them very much. I don't just think of them today but often throughout the year. Aunts and Uncles are gone as well and also a few dear friends. I think it best to remember all of joy and happiness they brought into my life. Do you have someone special you are remembering today? | |
