Discuss holiday items, ideas, and cheer!| People with Holiday spirit!! | | The year 2009 was not a good year financially for most of the world. But we are recovering from it. Lots of people were cutting back on everything through the whole year. As the Christmas and new year around most of the people are now back to holiday spirit. Lots of people are doing holiday shopping, and I am glad to see that. Otherwise as the data of job loss and people losing home describes the situation is scary. We went to mall today and it was packed, it was so hard to find parking spot. I am glad to see it like that in this years situation.What it is like in your place, are people busy doing holiday shopping?

| | Thanksgiving's Over, What's Next? Are You Feeling The Holiday Spirit? | | Well, I just finished my "Thanksgiving Part 2", yes, I do mean
"Leftovers"! And, I was just sitting here thinking what comes
next? This year has not been the best for alot of people I know
and I was wondering how "You" were feeling about the rest of
the holidays? Are you really in the mood to celebrate? Will
you? Or will you put on your best "game face" for the people

| | Holiday Spirit Missing? | | Here is a recnt shot of my house all lit up for the Holidays. This newly fallen snow makes this scene so festive looking. One can even see my tree in the window right in the center of the two tree branches in this shot. I have lighhts lined up all along the edge of my front lawn as some are visible in this photo. My garage has a set of icicle lights and other lights along the eave as well. Then my office also has lights in it's window. Does this bring forth some Holiday Spirit in you at all? Some have been missing it and I hope this helps at least a little bit for those.

| | Is your Husband in the Holiday Spirit? | | My Husband has more Christmas Spirit this year than he ever has. He usually does the out side lights and that is about it. This year he added more lights, lighted candy canes to the side walk and three spiral lighted chritmas trees out side. H has talked of "expanding" the decorations out side for next year, and catching the after christmas clearance to get some good deals... The funny thing is I tried to get him to do this for years, while the kids were all home, Now we only have our 14 year old nad 16 year old nephew. (our other 4 kids are grown and in thier own homes) Our Duaghter and two grandsons (5 and 1) just moved out a few months ago, maybe he misses them? He says He doesnt know why, he just feels like it... We may be headed for a new obsession...and outragous eletric bill. I am happy either way. What's your husbads up to this Holiday? | |
| | | Son & Holiday Spirit | | Got a call from my son a little while ago. This is odd as he seldom calls unless we call asking him to call back. So anyhow seems my house with all the decorations in and out have gotten him in the spirit of the Holidays. He called asking if I still had his Christmass stocking from when he wqas small. Of course I do. So he says he and his roommate have put a few lights up outside, a tree is up in their living room etc. Now he wants to hang his stocking on his mantle. So I searched and found the stocking plus an extra set of 200 mini lights for him to add to his decorations. Are your grown kids in the spirit? Do they decorate their house at all?

| | Holiday Spirit | | How does everyone feel about the Holidays, and getting to see family that you haven't seen all year? It always makes me think that maybe relatives think they are obligated to visit for the holidays because it is the social norm. Personally, If I haven't seen relatives any day of the year except last christmas, and they live here in my hometown, then I would rather just spend it with those that are close to me. It almost seems as an inconvenience for people to visit for the holidays. | |
| | Not into the Holiday Spirit | | Anyone else feel the same? The last few years I just can't seem to get into it. I haven't even pulled any Christmas decorations out for the house yet. Part of that is because no one really comes to our home much during this time of year, so I see no point in decorating if no one else is going to see the stuff, and we also have a 3 crazy cats who has free run of the house while we're gone to work...that's just a disaster waiting to happen.But aside from not feeling like bringing out the decor, I just feel like the true meaning of the holidays has been lost in mad rush of consumerism, competition of who got better stuff, and the general lack of consideration people have for one another this time of year. I remember doing my shopping back in the day and seeing everyone happy to be out and about wishing each other a happy holiday, people would let you have that parking spot and move on, or if someone bumped you they apologized. Now it's a big "f- you" or a nasty glare if you happen to be in anyone's way, pissing matches of who can afford more and fights for parking spots. I went Christmas shopping with a friend a few weekends ago and just came home disheartened because I didn't... | |
| | What puts you in the holiday spirit? | | For some people it is the cold weather, for others it is shopping, or cooking a big meal. For me, it is wrapping gifts for the kids in my neighborhood and volunteering some time to kids organizations. How about you? | |
