| How bad were the crowd where you went for the fourth of July? | | I don't know if we have ever passed a resort area during the 4th of July before but this Saturday we did. I have never seen the place so full. Already by 4:30 people were beginning to settle on the lawn along the highway to see the fireworks. They did have picnic items with them. There were trucks and cars parked along the highway which is the first time I ever saw that. My daughter said she wanted to go get her mail but there wasn't a parking spot to be found. She said she would wait until Monday to go get her mail. | |
| | Now that the fourth of July is over I hope that everyone had a great day | | and a safe one. There were so many reports here in the news of accidents, drownings and fireworks related. I am happy to say that none of them were of anyone that I knew, however am sad over the loss of life. I hope that all of you made it through without being hurt or any one that you love and care for being hurt either. Summer is the time of the year in which emergency rooms are packed with accidents and parents are hearing some horrid words from doctors etc. Please keep your children safe for the reminder of the summer and yourself as well. | |

| The Fourth of July | | I truly hope that everyone is enjoying the holiday. For me, it's just another day. This holiday has never been one of my favorites for some reason. I suppose I've never really felt that I had any remarkable degree of freedom to celebrate. I envy those who do. My sister's birthday is today, and I called to wish her a Happy Birthday this morning, but she was already up and out I guess. She was just released from the hospital again, but she refuses to take it easy. I know there was a big celebration planned for her today. She has said that she would like for me to join her on her birthday, but I'm just not up to it physically. I am dealing with two medical issues right now myself, so I'll just be taking things easy today. What are your plans? What does Independence Day mean to you personally? | |

Covering a parade at 10 AM.
A barbecue and bluegrass concert at 2 PM
And then fireworks tonight.
This will help make the rest of the weekend hopefully pass quickly.
Yesterday was friggin awful. It seemed like the day would never end, regardless what I did.
I usually hold holiday weekends in disdain. Everyone returns to their families and I'm let out here in left field holding the bag.

| | Fourth of July plans for July 4th 2009 | | What are other mylotters plans for July 4th 2009 Independence Day which is on Saturday this year?On Saturday, I plan to go to the Country Club swimming pool and swim and eat the barbeque buffet with chicken burgers,ribs, and hot dogs.At night, my mother, father,and I will watch the fireworks on the Golf Course.The fireworks are professionally lit.Some years on the 4th of July, my parents and I are at my camp on the river in Covington,my dad and I light fireworks that we buy at a stand and our neighbors watch us.The neighbors come over to our house and eat a buffet style dinner.This year there will be no July 4th celebration at our camp and we will stay home at our house in Baton Rouge.Other members, tell me about your 4th of July plans for 2009.[em]happy[/em][em]happy[/em]I also plan to watch the July 4th celebration on television with fireworks and musical guests. | |

| What is everyone going to do to enjoy the fourth of July? | | We were going to be hosing a neighborhood party but it turns out several of the neighbors are going out of town, so it is just family. and we have scaled it back a good bit. For the most part we are going to hang out and have fun.My boys have been gone for the week to their grandparents and they will be returning. I hope that we are able to have fun and enjoy some time in the sun.. | |
| | Fourth of July | | I would like to wish all of you a happy Fourth of July and offer a special "Thank You" to all of our service members and veterans who make our freedom possible!When I was a kid, we used to have bottle rocket wars and it was a hoot to sneak up on an unsuspecting person and light a firecracker under their shoe! We also had real M80's which were the equivalent of a quarter stick of dynamite! In those days, an M80 lit and tossed into a body of water resulted in a spectacular geyser followed by floating fish which were ready to be scooped up, taken home and cooked! And who could forget the old M80 in the watermelon trick! It never failed that one of the ladies would decide that watermelons make great centerpieces and casually place the unsuspecting melon over the umbrella hole in the picnic table, thus providing easy access to mischevious little boys lurking underneath! With a jack knife to carve out a plug and a little push of the finger, the melon became a fruit bomb! It was best to wait to light it until everyone was seated at the picnic table and ready to eat, then, BOOM! I can still see old aunt whosis picking watermelon seeds out of her... | |

I'm flying solo again... going to stay here in Charleston, probably work all weekend covering the parade and fireworks. Other than that, not sure what I'm going to do.
While I want to buy that new smoker I think I'm going to get me one of those cheap grills for now so I can at least grill out.
It would be ONE hamburger, ONE hot dog and ONE ear of corn. Not really worth building a fire is it.
