Discuss holiday items, ideas, and cheer!| Old Fashion? | | What ever happened to the good old fashioned Christmas present? When I ask people ...Say what are you giving for Christmas almost everyone has said cash. What's happened to putting a little thought into the gift? Isn't that what it's all about? Some of these people are giving cash to kids between the ages 4yrs to 13yrs. I think that's just silly. What do you think?

| | Old fashioned arcade machines, happy memories... | | I am sure we have all seen the retro game on google's search page, ie. Pac-man, there has been several discussions about this already here in myLot.What I am asking is what other arcade machines do you remember and what is your favourite retro game.
All games from the past (20-30 years) are classics, far superior to the modern games people play now.Asteroids was my personnal favourite.
| | Old Fashioned Oil Lamps | | Here is another rarity I saw in Johnstown..These are now electric, but in the beginning I am sure they were oil lamps they'd light every evening to light the streets. I don'[t remember the last time I saw something like this, probably when I was a kid. | |
| | Its 2010 why are we still doing things the old fashioned way? | | [em]happy[/em]There's nothing wrong with being a little old fashioned sometimes I am, but when it comes to certain things such as collage people should be able to get a collage degree even if there not a high school graduate.I've taken a few seminars, and practice collage courses and I've done very well at them, but I haven't taken the full collage exam's for my degree yet, because I'm working towards getting my GED/diploma, and by the way its kind of expinsive, so unfortunately the collage wont admit me as a full student yet, and I think thats a bit unfair because I'm not a teen anymore and I've done well at my practice collage classes so I feel that I should be able to attend collage as a full student, I think woman and men with children, and woman pass the age of 25 with special circumstance's should not require a high school diploma to attend collage. I know that some of the new emerging collages in the US are becoming more flexible but I think more collages should be this way, also I think more collages should have placement exams instead that way if a person passes the test they can attend collages. because a full grown adult or young woman with kids should not be... | |

| | Does anyone make extra money the old fashioned way anymore? | | When I say "old-fashioned" I mean collecting cans and turning them in, doing yard work for a neighbor, or walking dogs. It seems like in this community, a lot of people earn extra money via PTC sites or online surveys, or even myLot. I was just wondering if anyone out there earns money by more conventional means. | |
| | Do you think that the "old-fashioned" encyclopedia is still useful? | | By "old-fashioned" i mean the encyclopedia books that had a lot of volumes.
Can you imagine, not too long ago, those books that took up so much space in the bookshelves were very important for school?
Now all students have to do is go online and they'll find the answers for any homework.
i remember my parents bought a twenty-something volume of encarta for me when i was a kid, and i'd be so amazed at all the information i can read off from the pages.
But now, i hardly even pick up any of those books. I'd just switch on my PC and surf away.
I still have my encarta books at home, but their gathering dust in one of the bookshelves in my room.
I think i'm gonna go and browse through them later on, see if the information they offer is still useful.
Heheh;) | |
| | old fashioned or not? | | So many men have this preception that the women should stay home, and make sure dinner is ready, and take care of the kids, and do all the cleaning. Do you belive in this or do you believe in the modern life, of the women working, and both wife and husband be equal and share all of the responsibilities. In some ways i believe in the old fashioned ways. I believe if you are at home alld ay, that your husband shouldnt have to come home to a dirty home, or have to make their own dinner. How do you feel about it? | |
